Been There, Done it, It Works

Thanksgiving is this month so it’s a good time to think about what we’re thankful for.

Gratitude is a High Vibrational State

Gratitude is one of the higher vibrational states along with joy, bliss and love being the highest. When we’re in these higher vibrational states not only do we feel better, we’re more connected to Source. The more connected we are, the more things happen like inspiration, ideas for creation etc.

Gratitude has been such a buzz word lately. It’s great when a concept like gratitude hits the mainstream, but not when it’s not used properly or over-used. For example – gratitude journals. I think it’s a great concept, but just writing out 25 things you’re grateful for in a rote way isn’t going to do anything. You’re just doing what someone suggested or sounded good.

Go for the Feeling of Gratitude

It’s the feeling of gratitude you want to cultivate. You know what I mean. It’s like when you are really thankful for what someone did for you and tears come to your eyes – that’s feeling it. Or when someone says something really nice (and truthful) about your abilities and it warms your heart. That’s true gratitude. Not just writing something out because it’s a fad.

Here’s a caveat. Writing something out in a rote manner isn’t effective. However, it can be used as a springboard. Meaning, if you’re having a bad day and you want to elevate your mood get out your notebook paper or type on your laptop what you’re thankful for. In the writing of your list if it brings you to an emotional state that you can feel, if it evokes warm fuzzy feelings of gratitude, then it worked. Job accomplished.  Otherwise, it’s just words on the paper.

What Are You Thankful For?

Think about what you’re thankful for. Start with the obvious ones that we often take for granted – the roof over your head, the food in your fridge, the gas in your car, your health, your family, your friends, your pets, etc. Really contemplate on them because as I said, we take these for granted. Now is the time to dig deeper and be thankful. Even if your kids drive you crazy or your husband or wife ticks you off, at the end of the day you’re still glad and thankful they’re in your life. You are, you know you are.

Being thankful for your family even if they irritate you is a great way to get out of that irritation. Ok, so your kids are ticking you off. Take a deep breath and remember that you love them and glad you had them. That can shift your mood in an instant. Been there, done it, it works.

Now move onto some less obvious ones. Your gym membership, the guy you just started dating, the lady in the drive through who gave you a sincere smile. Whatever it may be. Get into those feelings.

Take Five for Gratitude

If you’re having a bad day at work and all heck is breaking loose, take five. Take some deep breaths and think about that hot guy you just started dating and how glad you are he’s in your life. Or that long lost friend who texted you out of the blue and put a smile on your face. Be thankful for them. Really get into those feelings. Then when your five is over, you’ll feel re-centered to get back to the task at hand. Just being thankful someone special is in your life whoever that may be – a BFF, your mom, your husband, your daughter etc – can switch your mood in an instant. Try it, it works.

Prayers Serve a Purpose

Remember when you were a kid your parents taught you to say your prayers at night? Other than the obvious religious reasons, there’s a good reason for doing that and keeping it in your daily practice – gratitude! I still do it at night. Again, don’t make it a rote thing where you’re just saying the words. If you forget or you’re not feeling it, don’t do it. When you do it, do it right. Really feel what and who you’re thankful for.

One big thing I’m thankful for?

YOU!

And I’m not just saying that because it sounds good or I’m trying to get you as a client. Truthfully, I’m thankful for each and every one of you that I have met or helped. I’m honored to have touched your life. From you I learn and grow. From you I become a better person, a better coach, a better psychic.  My life purpose is to be of service, to help others grow. If I can help you grow, even just by reading this, I am thankful and happy.
