I told you all I was creating something new. I’m not quite ready to share it
yet but I’ll take you on a journey.
Every story has a beginning, middle and end, right? I’m in the beginning.
It’s easy to get stuck at any phase, especially the beginning. It’s like
“failure to launch,” you just can’t get it going.
I’m already launching but for those of you that are working on or wanting to work on anything – from organizing your closet to starting a new business or career – you may be getting hung up.
Why?
Everyone has a different reason why. It’s your job to get to your why.
There’s something keeping you stuck, de-motivated, blocked. What is it?
How do you find out?
The best, most accurate way to find out, in my opinion, is to go inside. Get
quiet, ask your higher self why you’re stuck. Here’s a tip. You may not get the answer right away, especially if you’re not in the habit of asking yourself. Now is not the time to get impatient. Do your best to let it be. Eventually you will get the answer.
Did I tell you how I created my other sixteen-year-old business? I Probably
did but I’ll share it again. I wanted my own business but I had no clue what I wanted the business to be. I didn’t know what I was good at. I really didn’t even know my strengths. I knew I could work hard (even though I knew full well one of the secrets to success is working smart) but that was about it. I come from a family of work horses. We can work.
Since I didn’t know what I was good at I had some options. I could work with a career counselor but sixteen years ago I only knew of the big firms and I wasn’t interested in that. I could read that book, “What Color is My Parachute?” from the 90s. I didn’t like it the first time (I never finished it) so why would I like it the second time around? Scratch that off the list.
Ask friends or family? While friends and family are often good intentioned,
unless they are really good at brainstorming or creative solutions (which most aren’t, not a criticism, a fact), that was no bueno. Friends and family mean well but they aren’t generally equipped to help you think up a new business unless they have expertise in that area. Scratch that off the list too.
What was left?
Good ole intuition.
I have to admit I wasn’t near as plugged in sixteen years ago as I am today
but I gave it a try. At this point, what else did I have to lose? I mean,
nothing, really.
My son was a year and a half old so I was busy being a mom. The only time I really had to myself was when he napped and he wasn’t a good napper so I had to make it quick. I had to multi-task. Everyday when he was napping, I took my shower. If you’ve ever had a baby it’s just easier to do it when they’re sleeping vs putting them in a baby seat and possibly fussing while you’re in the shower. So, I waited for his naps. When I was in the shower, I put it out there to the Universe. I put in my request: help me think up a business idea.
And guess what?
It Comes When You Least Expect It
Eventually the answer came. Here’s another tip, it didn’t come during my
next meditation. It may not for you either so don’t expect it. It might or
might not. As long as you get the download, who really cares, right?
How long did I get the download after I started meditating? I really don’t remember but if I had to guess probably a few weeks at most. Again, the timing doesn’t matter as long as you get the download, right?
So, the moral of the story is this. If you’re stuck in the beginning, middle
or end of your project, go inside and ask yourself why.
For some of us even something as seemingly simple as organizing your closet can paralyze us. For one, if you’re a pack rat like I tend to be getting rid of stuff brings up a whole lot of resistance. If you like to organize but are
stuck, well, then that’s a whole other answer. Either way dig in and find out
why you’re stuck. You’ll get the answer, I promise. If I can, you can.
