Success Formula

As I was watching a TV show recently someone said to accomplish things, to be a success it requires tenacity, talent and intuition. Let’s break that down.

Having tenacity is to be relentless in the pursuit of getting something done. It’s never giving up. To be a success, yes, I would agree, tenacity needs to be in the formula. It allows you to continue to pursue your dreams despite any setbacks or misgivings. You know the saying, “If there’s a will, there’s a way.” If you really want it, your tenacity will assist you in getting it done despite anything you may encounter.

Thomas Edison famously said he didn’t just invent he light bulb, he discovered ten thousand ways not to do it. He turned his “failures” into an opportunity to keep on going, to figure out a new way to make a light bulb. He was tenacious. He never gave up. And thank goodness he didn’t because we no longer have to live by candle light!

So even in your darkest hour, having the ability to get back up and keep on moving is definitely required in the formula for success. Never, never, never give up is tenacity.

Talent – that’s an obvious one. If you can’t play the piano or aren’t very good at it, how can you be a concert pianist, right? It takes talent or a knack for something to be a success in a given field. Yes, skills can be learned, but some do it better than others. Why pursue something you aren’t that good at? Your chances of success are lower. So yes, include talent on the list.

Usually when we have a talent for something, we’re passionate about it. Even if we don’t know yet that we want to pursue our talent as a career, we often keep coming back to it. Why? Because we’re good at it. It’s easy for us. We love it. We enjoy it.

Talent doesn’t have to be something you use for your career, either. It could be a hobby or an ability that you enjoy. Maybe you enjoy helping people with their problems but you aren’t looking to make it into a career. You enjoy it. It’s easy for you. Because you have a talent for it.

Lastly, intuition. I’ve told my business development story several times so I’ll tell it again. When I started my business 17 years ago, I didn’t know what it would be. To get the answer I meditated. As a result, the answer of the “what” came in through my intuition. To circumvent the career counselors and aptitude tests I took a short-cut: my intuition. My intuition came through for the answer that I didn’t have using my own brain.

Once I got the answer it obviously had to appeal to me. And did I agree with it? I answered yes to both. So, I ran with it. Was I surprised it appealed to me? No. I wasn’t surprised because I know intuition always has the best answers for us. It gives us what’s best for our highest good. If you aren’t sure about that, try getting some intuitive hits, then sit with them and see if they resonate with you. Over time you’ll figure it out.

Once I created the business and got it up and running, I ran it using my intuition. The most successful people have a “feel” for things. They just “know” what to do, which way to go, which technique to use.  They may not realize they’re using their intuition, but they are. Just as you probably are using it in your own life but may not realize it or may not realize how much you use it.

If you get a gut feeling or just a hunch or a feeling, that’s your intuition talking. We often discount it or don’t realize it, but that’s it. You just struck gold when you got that hunch and then acted on it. It’s as if the Universe is leaving us a bread crumb trail. If you pay attention to notice there are bread crumbs that’s step one. Following them is step two. Step three will lead you to where you need to go. That’s how intuition works. Listen, see if it resonates, then follow it.

Let’s use an example to combine these three. If you want to be a day-trader as a hobby or side job it’d help to have some talent at it, right? Otherwise you may not make as much money as someone who’s better at it. Tenacity would help so that you’ll persevere through the ups and downs of the market. We know how markets can be, especially now, so not giving up is important.

Lastly, having some intuition to know when to buy or sell is very important. People that are into this tend to follow market trends and market leaders’ opinions. That’s all well and good, but if it doesn’t FEEL right to you, don’t do it.

That’s true for anything in life. You know the old saying, “If everyone jumps off a bridge, does that mean you have to also?” No, you don’t. If your intuition says no, don’t do it. Even if everyone else is!

I never cease to be amazed at the nuggets I pick up at times while watching TV. In this case I have to agree – tenacity, talent and intuition to guide you is the recipe for success. As we said in the 70s, “Keep on truckin’!”
