Over-Thinking Leads to Inaction

There are many articles, videos etc. on over-thinking. What it is, how to stop it, tips, hacks etc. It’s great to know how to stop it. Absolutely imperative. What happens once you stop it?

You have to take action.

Over-thinking allows us to not take action.

If You Think, You Don’t have to Do!

We think we’re in our comfort zone because over-thinking is familiar. It feels good. Or it feels bad but we’re used to it. It’s an escape. It is all of those things.

One of the main effects that it has on us is that we don’t have to take action. We can stay holed up in our heads, doing nothing but thinking. The same thoughts over and over. It may get tiring, but it’s all that we know.

As humans we do a lot of things that we know aren’t good for us, but we keep on doing them anyway. Why? Because they bring us some type of “reward” or pay-off. Some benefit. Even if it’s not a positive benefit. The benefit can be as simple as distraction, which it often is.

Over-eating is a giant distraction. It keeps us from feeling our feelings, from dealing with our problems, with life. Fill in the blank with any other type of addiction. Over-thinking is an addiction too, although it’s not commonly identified as such. It’s one of those “safe” things that everybody does.

So therefore, it’s ok, right? No. Just because something is common or wide-spread doesn’t mean it’s acceptable. It just means a lot of people do it. You know the saying, “If everyone jumped off the bridge, would you do it too?” Just because they’re all jumping doesn’t mean it’s safe or ok. The same principle applies here.

Conquer Your Mind, Conquer the World

The biggest obstacle preventing us from getting what we want in life is ourselves. It’s our mindset, our thinking, the way we see and experience life. The main factor in manifesting is your mindset, your thoughts and beliefs. If you can overcome or re-direct them, your chances of getting what you want skyrocket. If you can’t, you’ll probably stay stuck in neutral. Or attract what you don’t want.

Therefore, the biggest step in manifesting is to stop the over-thinking. Conquer the beast. Use your thoughts wisely. Re-direct them to what you want, not what you don’t want. It’s all too common to focus on what we don’t want. Take that and turn it around. Now you’re on track!

The last step in manifesting is take action. As I always tell my clients, “You can’t win the lotto if you don’t buy the ticket!” You have to have a ticket to win. Sure, someone can give you a ticket, but you still need a ticket to win.

All Roads Lead to Action

The same is true with manifesting. To get what you want, no matter what it is, there’s always some action that must be taken. Sometimes the action is just changing your thoughts. That is an action. Other times it’s tangible such as buying the lotto ticket or putting a for sale sign in your yard. Whatever the case may be, some action must be taken to get what you want.

When we over-think we stay stuck on our heads, we are in our comfort zone. If we’re always thinking about that project or our goals, but never start it, how can we finish it? How can we accomplish it? We can’t. And that’s the “beauty” if we’re scared. We can stay safe in our head, never to start. If we don’t start, we can’t fail.

The main reason why most people don’t do something is fear of failure. The opposite is also true, fear of success. There are so many “old tapes” going round and round in our heads keeping us from accomplishing our goals. To get something done, we have to rip up the tapes. Ban them from the recesses of our mind. They aren’t serving us. Yet, they feel comfortable like our favorite old sweater. Even old comfy sweaters need to be discarded sometime!

What’s at Stake?

It’s not easy to stop the over-thinking. There are many strategies that can be employed. Sometimes it helps to know what the consequences of our actions are. That will often motivate us to stop. If you’re hooked on Cheetos, yet you know they’re bad for you, knowing that hasn’t stopped you from eating them, has it? It depends on the situation.

When the stakes are higher such as over-thinking is preventing you from taking the next step in your relationship or stopping you from getting your dream job, then you’ll probably consider stopping it. Take a step back right now. What is it that you want to do or obtain but haven’t been able to get it done? How much do you want it?

If you can see that your thoughts on the matter are stopping you from getting it, would you be willing to stop them? At least think about stopping them? Are you ready to take the next step and work on stopping the over-thinking?

It’s all about how much we want something. Sometimes we think we want it, but when it comes down to it, we really don’t, for whatever reason. Other times we know we want it – badly. Haven’t you seen the people out there who always manage to get what they want? They have laser focus that keeps them on track.

It’s usually because they’re determined to get it. They’re willing to put in the work. They’re persistent. They don’t give up. They’re the “winners” of the world. The expert manifestors, whatever you’d like to name them.

Now, mind you, we don’t have to work as hard as we’ve been taught. Manifesting, in my opinion, is the “easy” way. Clear your thoughts, set your sights, then take action is a lot easier than working your tail off nonstop. Both may get the same end result, it’s just that one is less tiring. Maybe not easier, but for sure less tiring.
