Are Past Lives Real?

Sometimes in the spiritual community I get asked if past lives are real. I say sometimes because most people that I’ve met in this community believe in reincarnation and hence past lives. But others are unsure or unconvinced.

If you aren’t sure I’ll provide some “proof.”

Children Who Remember their Past Life

Many people have heard stories, mostly of children, who recall their past lives. The reason it’s mostly children is because children are not as far removed from the veil [that which separates us from the afterlife and other dimensions] as adults are. Their memories are fresher. The flip side is children don’t always understand everything they’re saying nor do they sometimes have the right words to describe things accurately. That doesn’t stop some stories from seeming to be true.

Take for example the little boy, James, who remembered being a WW2 pilot. Details of his story are here. His is one of the most famous cases. Judge for yourself whether you feel it’s true or not. To me there’s too much right about it for it not to be true. How could such a young child know so much? And be so distressed by it? Other cases have been reported over the years as well that seem to confirm the reincarnation theory.

Most of us cannot recall a past life. We aren’t meant to. It would be too disrupting to remember a past life, especially a traumatic one as in the case of James above. Our goal is to focus on our current life, not our past one. While knowing about a past life can be interesting, helpful or resolve trauma as in the case of little James, our main focus should be on our current life because that’s the life we have now. That’s not to say don’t investigate your past life, rather just don’t get too hung up on them or spend too much time wondering. Use past life information as a tool to heal, learn and grow, not a crutch.

Another Way to Remember

Since most of us don’t spontaneously remember a past life, there is another way to access this information. Past life regression. This technique uses hypnosis to recall or validate memories. Past life regression is different from a past life reading such as I offer. In a regression you are doing the work. The hypnotist is guiding you through the process, but you are the one supplying the memories. In a past life reading I am able to pick up on your past lives, so I inform you, not the other way around as in a regression.

I often felt like I have memories of a past life which I believe is my most recent one. My life was short but ended dramatically. Part of my demise actually centers around a famous event which I won’t share. Because of this latter fact I often doubted the veracity of my feelings. I felt they are true, but perhaps I’m making it up? Why would you want to make up a life that didn’t have a good ending? Why does anybody make up anything?

To resolve my inner conflict, I decided to have a past life regression done. During the session I discussed some of my memories. When you are hypnotized, you are semi-conscious, so I don’t recall all of the details. By unlocking the subconscious hypnosis enables us to access memories and information that we couldn’t otherwise.

When the session was over the hypnotist and I had a recap. I was still a bit incredulous that my memories seemed to be real. Never having done this before I wasn’t sure how it all played out. To reassure myself I asked the hypnotist if he felt my memories were authentic. Was I just making it up? He assured me they were real.

Then I went a step further and asked him how does he know? Based on his years of experience he knows what to look for. For starters, he could tell that I was “under” as in I was effectively hypnotized. As for the other signs that he recognized, well, it’s been too many years for me to recall them, sorry, but they were there.

Now, keep in mind that I had memories or feelings around this life already so perhaps it was a bit easier for me. I would imagine if you never had any past life memories they could still be retrieved in a regression. That’s its purpose.

What’s the Value?

What’s the value in knowing your past life?

It could be a lot; it could be nothing. Some people come to me for a past life reading purely for entertainment. They are just curious and that’s ok. They may or may not resonate with what I told them because it’s a big surprise to them.

Other people walk away feeling like their mysteries had just been solved. Some of the things I told them filled in the blanks for them about their current life and struggles. Or it explained why they are the way they are, why they have certain talents or gifts.

Knowing your past life can answer a lot of questions, especially if you have some memories. For one, you are validated so you know you aren’t crazy or imagining things. Confirmation always feels good because you know you were on the right track.

It can also solve a lot of problems as in the case of little James’ story above. Once they got clarity about what was going on with him, they were able to get him the proper help. As a result, his nightmares finally stopped.

What I’ve learned doing past life readings is it’s not so much about who you were then as it is about understanding who you are now. Knowing who you were can shed some light on your current life. It can help you understand why you do the things you do. Or why you struggle with something. Or why you like something or someone.

When I am shown a past life for someone, I always ask why this life was chosen. There’s always a nugget that can help the person somehow. The past can be the key to unlock the future. Just don’t let your key get stuck in the lock! Meaning, don’t get hung up on what you learned. Take what’s useful and discard the rest as they say.

So, given all this – my story and little James’ story as well as many others – it’s time for you to decide if they are real. Is this enough proof for you to decide? Do a quick Google search if you want more stories.  If it’s not, that’s perfectly fine. I’m not here to convince you one way or the other, just to provide some stories that I call proof. It’s up to you which way you go. There is no right or wrong here.
